Summer R&R

The University of Oklahoma's Writing Center is hosting a "revise and resubmit" camp for the university's faculty. The camp is sponsored by Learning, Teaching, & Writing and facilitated by the University's Writing Center's faculty. Summer R&R gives faculty a chance to revise an existing document, revise and resubmit an article, and retool a rejected piece of writing. This revise and resubmit camp will be held in Wagner Hall, Room 280 from 1-3pm June 21st through the 24th. To signup for the camp, call 405-325-2936.
Summer R&R gives the faculty a chance to revive their work. Working alone, having work rejected, and not having a lot of time are three factors that can negatively influence writing. This camp will allow the writers to further their work as well as their writing confidence.
Geneva Canino, the Writing Center's Program Assistant, thinks that "Summer R&R provides an excellent means for faculty and staff to develop their own research and turn to the world of academic publication."

Publish and Flourish

The University of Oklahoma Writing Center began a new seminar this summer called Publish and Flourish. The faculty seminar includes 16 hours worth of workshops spread out over a three week span. Through these workshops, OU faculty have the chance to begin to grant proposals/projects or to turn presentations into articles for publication. This seminar will take place annually in June inside the Writing Center (Wagner Hall, room 280). All you have to do is call 405-325-2936 to reserve your spot.
Publish and Flourish is especially unique because it is available only to faculty. Dr. Michele Eodice, the director of the writing center, knows how difficult it is for faculty to find the time to work on their writing. Therefore, this summer workshop, lead by Dr. Eodice herself, is the perfect way to allow OU's faculty to work with the guidance of experienced writing center staff. Dr. Eodice said, "The goal of the Learning, Teaching, & Writing program is to offer support for faculty writing as well as for student writing."

Camp Completion

Camp Completion is a three day camp lead by the heads of Learning Teaching Writing, also known as LTW, as well as camp councilors who are brought in for the sole purpose of camp. This camp is intended to help guide doctoral students through their writing in an effort to help them complete their dissertation. This camp was created with the intention of helping students who are working on their dissertation. Therefore, your dissertation or thesis proposal must be approved by your committee in order for you to attend. Camp Completion takes place at the end of May inside OU's Writing Center which is in Wagner Hall room 280. The camp costs $50; the price includes a t-shirt, beverages, food, and a handbook.
Dr. Michele Eodice and her experienced LTW staff work not only to improve students' writing, but also to improve special skills such as wellness, time management, conflict resolution, and the ability to map a strategy for completion. Camp Completion is a great opportunity to better your writing, develop necessary skills, create an academic voice, finish writing projects, and achieve success.

National Cheerleading Association

The University of Oklahoma will host the National Cheerleading Association (NCA) camps June 14-17, June 21-24, July 14-17, and July 21-24. The camps cost $280 for resident students and $170.oo for commuter students. The cost of camp also includes meals and accommodations. Throughout the 4 days that campers spend on OU's campus, they will create bonds with their fellow teammates as well as learn both game day and competition material.
In 1948, Lawrence "Herkie" Herkimer founded the National Cheerleading Association in an effort to create well-rounded cheerleaders. NCA camps work to improve not only cheerleaders' skills but also improve their work ethic. In the end, these camps benefit everyone. NCA has designed their overnight camps to improve communication and mechanical skills for both the cheerleaders as well as their coaches. Also, since the camps take place in the summer, it gives new teammates a chance to bond with each other; teammate trust is extremely important when it comes to team sports such as cheerleading.
Overall, cheerleading can be a very dangerous sport but the NCA staff have come together to ensure the safety of the cheerleaders. By attending camp, learning proper techniques, and bonding with teammates, cheerleading become less dangerous and more fun. While at camp, cheerleading squads have the opportunity to compete and win invitations to compete in national competitions. Visit nca.varsity.com for more information on cheerleading camps, competitions, and safety.

PWOP/SOP

For this project, I took two types of pictures. For the first type of picture, I found a building on the University of Oklahoma's campus that I thought would photograph well. I chose Lissa and Cy Wagner Hall.

For the second type of picture, I photographed something that means a lot to me. Since my boyfriend just moved to Harlingen, Texas I decided to photograph him through a skype conversation.
